“Governing” by emotions

Submitted by tola adenle on August 18, 2012 – 17:10.

Who in the world “advised” President E.G. Jonathan or suggested this-shd-keep-them-silent payout?  If “advised”, why did he not do what his mentor, RGO (retired Gen Obasanjo) tell the world about not taking the advice of advisors?  Just read how he ordered salaries of civil servants paid because of Id?  What kind of “governing” from emotional schemings is this?  Finally, what is Abati’s job and what in the world is Doyin Okupe’s?  Is this how the Jonathan Administration plans to reduce government spending?  Day by day and inexonerably, the President is proving “those who do not wish him well” – that he should throw in the towel and leave.  emotanafricana

I read it and I think it is very unfortunate. I have the feeling that President Jonathan may not know anything about this for two reasons. One is that, he would not have done it in the open as handled in this case, and two, the amount involved is too small for the calibre of men on the delegation. What is this amount to just one of them in terms of their wealth?

Somebody is just acting too over-zealously. If it’s done normally without any biases, it could be termed African gesture of a host to his guests.

      Dear Fatai,

Thanks for weighing in on this.

Who knows whether Jonathan was aware or not but a system in which underlings have limitless access to huge amounts of cash to pass around on behalf – or in the name – of their principal, the president of a country, speaks volume about the depth of corruption in Nigeria today. If Jonathan was unaware, he is NOT in charge as most Nigerians now suspect. If he does, ditto!

Either way, it is still another nail in the coffin of a “transformational” presidency.

      Regards,
      TOLA.
