FLIGHT: (Delta) DL 55 Lagos – Atlanta

There was an attempt to blow up this flight originating from Lagos on Sunday 8thJune 2014. If not for Almighty God that intervened on our behalf, my wife and would have become history and obituary written about us with other passengers and crew of the above flight. We were on board this flight to Toronto via Atlanta to attend the graduation of our daughter Modupe Olusola Samuel at McMaster University, Hamilton Ontario Canada.

Midway between Lagos and Atlanta over the Atlantic, the pilot switched of all the TV Screens and requested that all electronic devices should be switched off and all passengers should remain firmly seated and belt fastened securely.

He later announced that the flight was diverting to Dakar, Senegal because of the security situation in the aircraft and for the safety of all, we would be landing at Dakar for security checks.

As we landed, all passengers were asked to remain seated and belts remain fastened. We then noticed a young man in handcuffs being led out by two US Marshalls disguised as crew members from the rear of the aircraft. We were asked to disembark two rows at a time and leave, all overhead stowed-away luggage to remain untouched, only those handbags with us in the cabin to be taken along to the arrival hall and the hand bags and ourselves were screened by machine and Senegalese security staff. All bags in the aircraft were taken out and screened and unknown, to us a second terrorist was arrested when a bomb was discovered in his luggage apparently on transit from a West African country. That is how they avoided screening in Lagos as both are Malians.
We eventually took off for Puerto Rico USA as the fuel and food would not suffice to Atlanta.

I am writing from Atlanta Airport waiting for our flight by air Canada to Toronto. Praise The Lord for His mercies endureth forever.

We just have to thank Him and glorify His name for the mercies He showed on all the passengers especially we the Charleans (products of St Charles’ Grammar School, Osogbo) because we had two families on the plane. That of Bros RSO (Engr Samuel) and the wife of a former Permanent Secretary in Osun State Dr Adegboyega Isiaka (Isaac) Oduola. I say big congratulations to them.

      Dear Fatai,

We thank God for everybody’s lives spared as you mentioned and particularly for the lives of those Charleans and their families. And for Charlean Opawoye who sent me the story, I say a big thanks.

We pray He will soften the hearts of the hardened criminals who parade themselves as doing Allah’s bidding while pursuing their own agendas.

But how come they could pass through our beloved (?) Murtala in that merry-go-round journey with no questions asked to stop their murderous quest? Thank God for communication that allowed them to be stopped.

      Regards,
      TOLA
