Update on Chibok Girls: Recently released Susan Ishaya is pregnant – Tola Adenle

September 27, 2014

The matter of the kidnapped school girls from Chibok which captured the world’s imagination about six months ago may be gradually waning but their ordeal, trauma and long-term effects are very real and, perhaps just beginning.  This is not just for those still in captivity but for those released about whom there are reports of trauma.

Now, the beginning of what may be a floodgate opening, has been reported.

One of the abducted girls from Nigeria’s Islamists-terrorized Northern Nigerian village of Chibok, Susan Ishaya who was recently released is four months with child.

This has been reported by Nigeria’s Leadership newspaper.

The fate of the remaining girls seems up in the air as nothing appears being done by the government to effect their release.  The incredible goodwill and moral support from the world, and the logistics provided by the U.S. government to track where nearly 300 girls could be in the Northeastern part of Nigeria and neighboring states seem now squandered.

Meanwhile, the re-election of the non-declared President Jonathan for another term seems to be central to everything in Nigeria, and of course, the grinding poverty of a people who live side by side with most billionaires the country has ever known.  The wealth, and the personal jets that are now supposed to rank the ill-starred country as among the highest in the world, come directly or indirectly from the country’s stolen or misappropriated oil wealth.

Who will BringBackOurGirls and for how much longer must this go on?
