Buhari’s War against Corruption: the former General serves notice to middlemen in the oil sector – Tola Adenle

November 4, 2015

Nigeria

As Nigerian government decides to sell and buy petroleum products directly and cut out middlemen who live through graft which sends Nigerians on never-ending cyclical massively-hiked petroleum product prices, Nigerians are gradually seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Year after year since Obasanjo’s presidency, the so-called “oil subsidy removal” has been a constant campaign of greed which has sent hundreds of Nigerians to early graves from fires at bust oil pipes where poor Nigerians see opportunity for some respite while a chosen few have been the actual beneficiaries of the “oil subsidy” scam.

From Obasanjo to Jonathan, Nigerians were treated with disdain, including President Obasanjo’s immortal words during one of the “oil subsidy” protests: “I can’t go lower” on petroleum prices as if he owned the country’s natural resources.

All Nigerians are praying for Buhari at multiple churches I’ve attended since June while proxies are angling to have oil subsidy “removed”. How about devaluation? At one particular church, a particular modern-day common prayer in Nigerian churches about “fashioned weapons” was injected into the prayers: “No weapons fashioned against Buhari shall prosper” to which resounding “Amens” rose to the high ceilings of the church!

Now, if Nigeria can get back those real oil subsidies from the leeches – the real oil subsidy recipients – for the purpose of making lives easier for Nigerians and allowing the country to prosper by subsequently building refineries, our dream of a great country can get a big assist.

Thanks for this, Dear Folakemi. I do not think we can do more than what conclusion you’ve reached: wait and see whT direction the new cabinet will take. I feel Buhari’s determination will rein in to some extent his appointive nominees.

      Regards,
      TOLA.
