Presidency, APC reject calls for restructuring – The Punch
In coming out to reject calls coming from across the country – North and South for the first time by “presidency, APC”, Buhari/ the ruling party has bared its fangs and shown Nigerians that it’s not much different from the old status quo because until the problem of a very faulty foundation on which we continue to build is amended, Nigeria cannot begin to prosper.
Whatever may be surmised from calls from the likes of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Arewa Youth Forum and others from the most stridently reactionary sections of the North, the fact is that for once, voices and minds from all parts of Nigeria are in tandem as to urgent steps that need be taken to restructure the country for it to truly reflect a “federation” of many nationalities.
APC national chairman’s quoted reasons for puncturing the balloon of the people’s expectation on this age-old and important issue is a non-starter:
“Nothing is wrong with the idea but at this time, it is best for us to concentrate on our priorities. As a party, our priority right now is to rebuild the economy, create jobs and deal with the security problems at hand.
“And with what is happening in the Niger Delta you can see that there is so much to do. We must get our priority right some day we will come to that.”
This excuse by “Presidency, APC” is disingenuous, as in –
|insincere, dishonest, untruthful, false, deceitful, duplicitous, lying, mendacious;|
Right now, MOST Nigerians are aghast as to why President Buhari has gone back on his words to name and shame the thousands and thousands of unarmed burglars/looters who have brought the country to her knees.
Millions of Nigerians know who the thieves that parade as big men and women in society are; hundreds of thousands also know innumerable physical assets within and outside Nigeria AND THEIR OWNERS. These are not enough. We all know Buhari as a man of integrity but that is not enough; his words that he would have names of The Thieves in our Midst publicized are what Nigerians await so that ALL NIGERIANS AND THE RECORDS will make these names known for all time.
THIS is another blow to the aspirations of millions who chose Buhari for a CHANGE he used as mantra in his campaign, a change Nigeria desperately needs, a blow that makes us all wonder if the forces that surround Buhari, as many had wondered aloud before and after his election, would allow him to rule with equity as a goal that must be reached.
Muhammadu Buhari, you are not one about whom we should have to regret and wonder aloud in future, “President Buhari, we thought we knew you”.
