Stunning art images from Ile-Ifẹ, Ọba Ogunwusi’s birth place and the city over which he now reigns as the ruler of all Yorubas.

His city is the ancestral and remains the spiritual home of all Yorubas in Nigeria and the Diaspora, be it in Brazil’s Salvador or wherever Yorubas are found.

Both: Early 14th Century

On his present stop in the Washington, D.C. area to meet many of his subjects, i.e. ALL Yoruba sons and daughters from whichever part of Yorubaland, the newly-crowned Ọọni of Ifẹ, His Imperial Majesty, Ọba Adeyẹye Ẹnitan Ogunwusi, Ọjàjà II has been receiving streams of Yorubas as well as visiting others in places of worship.

Ile-Ifẹ or Ifẹ, is in Southwestern Nigeria.  The Ife Head and other sculptures unearthed at Ife—art that capsized Western assumptions about African civilizations in the early part of the last century brought the city, and Yorubaland at large, to Western consciousness, earning the African Continent a lot of respect.

Kabiyesi Ọọni  Ọ̀jàjà II is accompanied by his Olorì  as well as several chiefs and administrative and personal aides. He will be in the D.C. area for a few more days.

Here are a few photographs from the D.C. stop-over.

Coming to America. The hope is that after his travels, Ife will be a place that everyone would love to visit, and walk the streets.

“Amin”/Amen to the prayer said for the King, and thanks for the contribution.

Judging from the way the Ọọni started, and from the way he’s receiẹing Yorubas of all shades, especially the young ones like him, his show of simplicity and humility despite the grandeur of his position that he takes eẹerywhere, including here in America, I think it should not be difficult for him to succeed.

Like you even though you are a Daughter of the Soil – permit me to say that as you Modakẹkẹ and Ifẹ are REALLY ONE – lasting peace between the two communities is what we all hope for.

Ọọni Ọ̀jàjà II needs all our prayers for a long and peaceful reign.

      Regards,
      TOLA.

Ooni ‘Ajala travel’. Still trying to make up my mind about this trip but one thing we got out of it is that we finally heard the Olori’s voice.

Thanks, Dear Naijamum. They are both young like you and Ojaja II seems to understand his role, and he takes it very seriously. Ooni Sijuwade also did, and he brought many of our long-gone brothers and sisters in Diaspora – Cuba, Brazil … to know more about their root and culture.

Travelling is necessary for such people.

We all wish him good luck.

      Sincere regards,
      TOLA.
