Nigeria

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Kyari had at a recent joint meeting of heads of security  agencies berated the EFCC boss for pursuing certain high profile investigations with the capacity to embarrass the administration without clearance from the presidency.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, has issued a  threat to  the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, following the recent raid of Lagos and Abuja offices of oil firm, Sahara Energy.
The anti-graft agency recently raided the offices of the oil firm following its  involvement in crude oil swap deals running into billions of dollars which the company benefited from. The company is believed to have channeled millions of dollars into President Buhari’s 2015 presidential campaign.
Kyari and the Director-General of the   Department of State Security (DSS), Mamman Daura, have been collaborating to whittle dowm the pace of investigation in addition to issuing threats to some media organisations whose bosses are implicated in the arms procurement scandal, to slow down on the story which would expose the extent of the company’s contribution to the presidential election.
The desperation by the duo is anchored on expected backlash for an administration that is already under fire for its selective anti-corruption drive targeting mainly members of the opposition.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Kyari had at a recent joint meeting of heads of security  agencies berated the EFCC boss for pursuing certain high profile investigations with the capacity to embarrass the administration without clearance from the presidency.
Kyari, who is believed to be captured in President Buhari’s future political calculations, with vested interest in Sahara Energy, told the EFCC chair that if he failed to seek clearance before embarking on some of his investigations, he may be playing with his job.
“You should have sought clearance. But you can play with your job if you like!”, he fumed at the meeting, warning that he may not have the pleasure of  such privileged warning again.

All over the world, situations such as this usually degenerate into witch hunts of opposition members. Even then, I suspect that the Chief of Staff’s days are numbered in his position because of the political compromise that may have been effected with Buhari’s last campaign office(rs).

      Dear Doctor,

Thank you very much for this.

I wouldn’t bet on the idea that the Chief of staff would lose anything as small as a suspension. His job is guaranteed for the life of this administration but then, again, anything is really possible in Nigeria despite people’s belief – like me – that change arrived with Buhari.

      Sincere regards,
      TOLA.
