USA: Fish rotting from head downwards calls for Democrats framing ALL elections around President Trump & Republicans – Tola Adenle

June 21, 2017

USA

This is definitely Monday morning quarterback(ing) as there’s no other way to look at an election that came tantalizingly close than looking back at what should have been the route to take.

Handel, who is now headed to Washington to represent Georgia State’s 6th District in the House of Representatives stayed away as much as possible from mentioning President Trump in her campaign; she needed to.

Ossof, however, had no reason to but he did take an unnecessary high road of civility, avoiding, like Ms. Handel, to frame his campaign around the central problem in US politics today: President Donald Trump AND Republican Party politicians.

The toxic political situation in America today is a direct result of the atmosphere created by Candidate Trump who will forever stand accused of being complicit in the violence that plagued the candidate’s campaign rallies. Hate and racist groups like the old Ku Klux Klan (KKK) also became emboldened enough to resurge even in broad daylight, no thanks to a candidate who would remain silent rather than check supporters’ excesses.

The infamous David Duke, a former Grand Wizard of the KKK not only made an attempt to run for office as he had attempted in the past – in 2016, he decided on the US Senate – he not only endorsed Trump but made a claim widely reported by newspapers: “… Make no mistake about it, our people have played a huge role in electing Trump” after the election.

During the campaign, it took Candidate Trump a long time to hesitantly denounce Duke: “I guess” was his reported response when asked if he would vote against Duke who announced during the campaign that his voters and Trump’s were the same!

Republican Party politicians, with the exception of a very few like Governor Kasich, never really came out against all the outrageous things that people complained about Candidate Trump, and since his election, most have chosen to remain silent – and therefore complicit – in the theater that President Trump has been putting on for the world to the embarrassment and shame of millions of Americans and even non-Americans, as long as they can continue to piggyback on his presidency to their selfish goals: enact unpopular laws and permanently remain in office.

A few Republican lawmakers have more than stood their ground by speaking out against what they’ve seen as over-reaching and/or undemocratic ways of the President, Senators McCain and Graham, for example.

The leadership by President Trump AND the Republicans call for Democrats to call them out at every point, ESPECIALLY during any and all elections. There’s no need to shy away from calling a spade by its proper name, being civil, as Ossof did during the Georgia race, can only lead mostly to losses because voters would not be able to see any reason from continuing to vote the same old way.

The old saying about a fish’s rottenness starting from the head is very apt. After all, the Republicans have always been good at fingerpointing towards President Obama for all imaginable ill of society, including after leaving office.

Karen Handel’s Congressional career will/cannot deviate from the path that President Trump and Republican lawmakers are charting right now with chaotic foreign policy consequencies and a domestic agenda that has nearly evaporated.
